Downward-Facing Dog: Plano Rolf Method of Structural Integration: Deeper Yoga Poses Enhanced

Ida Rolf respected yoga, studied yoga and was inspired by it in her life work. In "Rolfing" by Ida Rolf she refers to yoga and describes the benefits of healthy fascia that spans and extends. It should be no surprise that the manipulative approach of the Rolf Method of Structural Integration coupled with its educational quality has a long standing reputation for helping people enjoy and further their yoga practice. We love yoga at The Solberg Center for Structural Integration and have enjoyed its practice and helping others who want to deepen their poses and gain stability in balance.
Our house yoga instructor, Dr. Ruth Wachendorfer M.D. has worked with us for over 4 years, since 2006. We continue to learn from each other and explore the interesting compatibility between Yoga and Rolf Structural Integration. Rolfer Ken Solberg, along with Michael Solberg and Dr. Wachendorfer have developed an innovative approach of working with the body by using the hands-on approach of a Structural Integration session while a client is actually in a yoga pose. The results were quite noticeable for us. Dr. Wachendorfer was impressed with how much deeper she could reach into a pose she felt limited in for years. Michael noticed his hips being much more open from working with this approach. Ken noticed his shoulders and spine more connected and arms less compressed from decades of Rolfing.
A few days ago a client of The Solberg Center (a yoga student, marathon runner and mother living in Frisco, Texas) sent us a note about how her sessions of Structural Integration have helped her yoga and athletics. Her letter reads:
"SI has helped me in both running and yoga. I recently began practicing again after taking the summer off.
I was amazed at how good the poses felt. Down dog actually felt like a really deep stretch from my Achilles to deep into my shoulders, rather than the torturous pose it used to be. My hamstrings and hips have remained loose after the SI work we did this summer. I feel like I can go deeper in both Warriors I and II, which only encourages me to continue with my practice. Its amazing how working through the "trouble spots" seems to have released my whole body, which in turn has had a positive impact on my yoga practice."-Stephanie P.
